Year 3 Ipad SRS
In 2026 here at Burpengary Meadows State School we are implementing a digital technology immersion of Ipads in Year 3.
This initiative is distinct from our current Year 4, 5 and 6 BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) model. Instead of families
purchasing and managing a device, the school will purchase and manage iPads on behalf of Year 3 students. Families
will simply pay a levy to access the device for the school year. The device will remain at school and be used solely for
classroom-based learning.
We believe this model offers a number of significant advantages:
• No need for parents to purchase a device upfront, alleviating pressure at the beginning of the school year.
• All apps and learning tools will be managed by the school, ensuring students have what they need, when they
need it — no downloads or configurations required at home.
• The device remains safely at school, removing concerns around transporting, breakages or losing expensive
equipment.
• A reduction in booklist costs, as many resources and tasks will be completed digitally through school-managed
platforms.
• Greater consistency across classrooms, as all students will be using the same type of device with the same apps.
• Less troubleshooting for parents, as all technical issues are handled on-site by school staff.
• Focused digital skill development, with teachers designing learning experiences that intentionally build students’
confidence and capability with technology.
• Safe and secure digital use, supported by the school’s existing cybersafety protocols and content management
systems.
Importantly, we are considering this change to apply only to Year 3 in 2026.
The BYOD model will remain in place for
students in Years 4, 5 and 6.
More detailed information about the program, including levy costs and how the iPads will be integrated into learning,
will be shared later this year.
